The NCAA Transfer Portal has officially opened for Men’s Basketball. Over the next couple of weeks, the landscape of college basketball will transform with players across the country opting to find new homes to continue or finish their playing careers. Follow along as VTScoop will cover all things concerning Virginia Tech in the transfer portal, including the latest updates, key targets and roster overview as players begin to make clear of their intentions for the 2024-2025 season.
When the 2022-23 transfer portal was open, more 1,800 players put their names into the portal. As a result of a rule change to the Transfer Portal, the portal will remain open for 45 days before closing Wednesday, May 1. Previously, the window was open for 60 days. Additionally, the organizing body passed a preliminary injunction that immediately granted eligibility to multiyear transfers through the end of the spring sports period. This means multi-year transfers have the ability to once again enter the portal.
On March 1, the NCAA sent out a letter to member schools stating that they are going “to pause and not begin investigations involving third-party participation in NIL-related activities.”
This means NIL collectives and others involved in the NIL marketplace will be allowed to directly communicate with transfers during the recruiting process as long as it is in compliance with state law.
