The Los Angeles Sparks play against the Phoenix Mercury tonight. The matchup will be broadcasted on ION network at 9 p.m. CT, and it will be the second game of a WNBA doubleheader. Fans can watch this WNBA game for free online by using the free trials offered by DirecTV Stream and Fubo TV.
The Sparks enter this matchup with an abysmal 4-13 record, and they have lost six games in a row. The team’s star forward Dearica Hamby has been one of the only bright spots on the team, as she is the only player averaging double digit points for Los Angeles this year. Hamby also leads the Sparks in assists, steals, and rebounds.
Notably, Los Angeles has been forced to play without their 2024 second overall pick Cameron Brink. The dominant defensive player suffered an ACL injury that will make her miss the entire WNBA season, which is a massive blow to the Sparks. The injury derailed her rookie campaign and massively hurt the team’s roster depth. Due to this setback, Los Angeles will have to massively overperform to win tonight’s matchup.
Phoenix currently has an 8-8 record, but the team boasts an incredible 6-2 record at home. Luckily for the Mercury, tonight’s game will be played in Phoenix, and the team is currently fully healthy.
The Mercury have four players averaging double digit points, including all three of their star players: Diana Taurasi, Kahleah Copper, and Brittney Griner. These three have been imperative to the team’s wins this season, and they will try to obtain a winning record by emerging victorious tonight.
The Mercury lost 73-60 to the Minnesota Lynx in their last game, as they experienced a lot of offensive struggles. Phoenix’s three stars combined for just 26 points in the game. If they cannot buy a basket in tonight’s matchup, then the Sparks could pull off the upset in Phoenix.
