Former UConn women’s basketball standout and Connecticut Sun guard Tiffany Hayes announced her retirement from the WNBA on the “Counted Me Out” podcast.
“This right here with the Connecticut Sun was my last season,” Hayes said.
Hayes said she will continue to play overseas, but she decided to leave the WNBA to spend more time with her family and focus on business ventures. The Atlanta Dream selected Hayes with the 14th pick in the second round of the 2012 WNBA Draft and she spent 10 years with the franchise.
Hayes, 34, was traded to the Connecticut Sun last offseason. She averaged 12.1 points in 40 games for the Sun in 2023.
The 2017 WNBA All-Star averaged 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals over her professional career.
Hayes helped the Huskies win two consecutive NCAA Titles in 2009 and 2010. The 5-foot-10 guard earned Big East All-Freshman Team honors in 2009 and was selected for the All-Big East First Team in 2011.
She averaged 11.7 points in 154 games from 2008 to 2012.
