Women’s Basketball Set To Host North Alabama Tuesday – Samford University Athletics

GAME NOTES–SAMFORD VS. NORTH ALABAMA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Samford women’s basketball team will return home to play host to the North Alabama Lions Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.

The Bulldogs and Lions are meeting for just the fourth time, with Samford owning a 3-0 series lead. The teams last met on Dec. 30, 2021, in Florence, Ala. Samford earned a 78-75 overtime win in that meeting.

The Bulldogs come into this game with a record of 7-4. The team took on Arkansas on Saturday, falling by a score of 68-54 in Little Rock, Ark.

So far this season, sophomore Masyn Marchbanks leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game. Graduate transfer Sadie Stetson averages 9.3 points per game, and she scored 22 points in Samford’s most recent game against Arkansas. She also leads the team in steals with 20.

Graduate transfer Lexie Pritchard averages 8.9 points per game. She also leads the team in assists, dishing out 45 so far this season. Redshirt sophomore Carly Heidger is averaging 8.4 points per game. Emily Bowman scores 8.0 points per game. She also leads the SoCon and ranks 12th in the nation in blocked shots, averaging 2.82 per contest.

Entering this week, Samford ranks second in the Southern Conference in blocked shots, averaging 4.1 per game. Individually, in addition to Bowman, Pritchard ranks second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (1.4) and ranks third in assists per game (4.1), while Stetson ranks third in steals (1.8 pg.).

Carley Kuhns is in her fifth season as head coach of Samford women’s basketball. Kuhns enters this week with a record of 131-93 overall and 65-62 in her time at Samford.

North Alabama comes into Tuesday’s game with a mark of 3-7 so far this season. The Lions most recently played at Arkansas State, falling by a score of 82-78 Thursday evening.

So far this season, North Alabama has been led by Alexis Callins, averaging 17.4 points per game. Alyssa Clutter is scoring 11.3 points per game, while pulling down a team-best 5.3 rebounds per game. Sara Wohigemuth leads North Alabama in assists, dishing out 5.7 per game. North Alabama head coach Missy Tiber is in her 11th season in charge of the Lions’ program and her 21st as a head coach overall. She has a career record of 344-292, including a mark of 158-136 in her time at North Alabama.
