Where do you think Kentucky should be ranked? Sound off!
Your Kentucky Wildcats have a ton of momentum heading into this week’s annual matchup with the Louisville Cardinals. Head coach John Calipari and his team are coming off a nail-biting victory over the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic.
The Wildcats made all of the right plays late in the 87-83 victory — something that they haven’t exactly been known for consistently doing over the last several years. Each of the Wildcats played well, which was extremely positive to see, considering the opposition.
A win over the No. 9 team in the country should thrust the No. 14 Wildcats up a spot or two. CBS Sports ranked Kentucky at No. 11 yesterday, one spot ahead of North Carolina.
Though the loss was a second consecutive loss for the Tar Heels, they were still ranked No. 9 coming into the game and are just a few weeks removed from putting up 100 against the then-No. 10 Tennessee Volunteers. So if they fall back just a few spots, it’s understandable.
Next up for Kentucky are in-state rival Louisville. While the Cardinals have been quite underwhelming so far this year, Kentucky can’t look past this one. After losing to UNC-Wilmington a few weeks ago, another loss like that would do Kentucky no favors come March.
According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, the Wildcats have an 87.6% victory. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm ET on Thursday with television coverage on ESPN.
