Others getting votes: Colorado 116, Mississippi 86, Texas A&M 58, Auburn 57, Memphis 56, Alabama 43, Utah 25, Iowa St. 20, Ohio St. 9, Providence 7, San Diego St. 7, TCU 6, Nevada 5, South Carolina 3, New Mexico 2, Washington 2, Kansas St 1, Grand Canyon 1, Dayton 1, Saint Joseph’s 1.

It was less than two weeks ago when the then-No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats completely dismantled the then-No. 8 Miami Hurricanes in a 95-73 blowout victory. Since then, Kentucky has shockingly lost to UNC-Wilmington and scraped past Pennsylvania.
During this time, the Wildcats have also been a bit more up and down with their offensive efficiency than they were early on to start the year. Combine that with the UK dealing with multiple injuries to key players, and losing to UNC-Wilmington becomes a real possibility.
But on Saturday, now-ranked No. 16 Kentucky will face off against now-ranked No. 9 North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic, hosted in Atlanta this year. A win for Kentucky would work wonders for their resume, while a loss wouldn’t qualify as very uplifting. Winning further proves Kentucky is a legitimate team and gives head coach John Calipari’s young core of players a confidence boost ahead of conference play that begins in January.
