NBA Rumors: Danny Green, 76ers Haven't 'Ruled Out' Return After James Harden Trade – Bleacher Report

Danny Green could return to the Philadelphia 76ers after being waived earlier this week to make room for the players they received from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the James Harden trade.
Per B/R’s Chris Haynes, both Green and the Sixers have an “affinity” for each other and neither side has “ruled out” a possible reunion if the team has a roster spot that comes open.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday the 76ers were waiving Green with Marcus Morris Sr., Robert Covington, Nic Batum and KJ Martin coming over from the Clippers.
The Sixers started the season with a full 15-man roster. They acquired four players in the Harden trade, but only sent out three with Harden, P.J. Tucker and Filip Petrusev going to Los Angeles.
Green wound up being the low man on the totem pole for head coach Nick Nurse and president of basketball operations Daryl Morey. It’s not a total surprise he was waived by the club.
The 36-year-old spent most of the offseason as a free agent until signing with the 76ers on Sept. 13. His contract was non-guaranteed with multiple trigger dates that made it easier to waive him without incurring significant financial penalties.
Danny Green's one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers is non-guaranteed and includes several trigger dates, league sources told <a href="https://twitter.com/MikeAScotto?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@MikeAScotto</a> and me.<br><br>Opening night: $500,000<br>November 24: $750,000<br>December 24: $1.3 million<a href="https://twitter.com/SixersAdam?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@SixersAdam</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/PaulHudrick?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@PaulHudrick</a> had non-guarantee first.
Green did appear in each of Philadelphia’s first two games of the season, including 14 minutes in the opening game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He didn’t score and only attempted two field goals in the two games.
Philadelphia doesn’t have great depth at shooting guard right now. De’Anthony Melton is currently starting for Nurse and is off to a slow start, but he’s shot 38.8 percent from three-point range over the previous three seasons.
Jaden Springer’s fourth-year option for the 2024-25 season was picked up by the Sixers on Tuesday. The 21-year-old is currently averaging a career-high 7.0 minutes per game in three appearances this season.
While no longer an impact three-and-D player at this stage of his career, Green is still capable of guarding perimeter players. He’s been an effective three-point shooter with a 38.8 percent success rate in 210 games over the past four seasons.
If the Sixers think they need more wing help for this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them bring back Green if they can find a way to open up a spot on the roster for him.
