COLUMBIA, Mo. –  Four Tigers scored in double figures as University of Missouri Women’s Basketball defeated North Alabama, 83-72 on Tuesday night in Mizzou Arena.
Graduate forward Hayley Frank with a career night led Missouri in scoring as she reached the 29-point total in her career. Frank’s scoring performance marks her highest since Nov. 11, 2021, against Columbia College.
With the point total Frank passed Lorraine Ferret (1979-83) to move into seventh on Missouri’s all-time scoring leaderboard. The graduate stands just nine points shy of Nancy Rutter (1974-78) for sixth.
Senior guard Mama Dembele led the way for Tigers defensively with a career-high 10 steals. Dembele was a menace on the defensive end as she tied her previous career-high four steals in just the first quarter alone.
Dembele also added 12 points, which earned her a double-double. She has recorded the statistical feat in consecutive games for the first time in her career.
Freshman forward Grace Slaughter continues to impress early in her career as she scored 13 points and has recorded double-digit points in each contest this season.
Sophomore guard Ashton Judd recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The 10-point performance marks the fourth consecutive time she has tallied double-digit points.
The game began as an end-to-end contest as both squads traded baskets as Missouri took an early 15-12 advantage. But as the first period came to a close, the Tigers extended their lead 23-12 behind a strong defensive effort. They forced four turnovers and didn’t allow a basket from North Alabama.
Riding the momentum from the end of the opening quarter the Tigers were able to extend their lead to 40-23 midway through the second. However, the Lions were able to bounce back with a 7-0 run to close the half, narrowing the Tigers’ lead to 10.
To open the second half, Missouri came out firing and extended its advantage to a game-high 18 points early in the third period.
Despite a strong effort from North Alabama, the Tigers didn’t allow the Lions within nine points for the remainder of the contest. Frank scored 13 of her total down the stretch in the fourth as Missouri was able to pull away for the victory.
The Tigers dominated the painted area as they outscored the Lions 50-24 around the basket. Missouri also took care of the glass on both sides of the court outrebounding North Alabama 49-30. The Tigers improved to 3-0 when they’ve outrebounded their opponent this season.
