Both Andrew Slater and the unknown individual operating the Twitter account “Trilly Donovan” have proven to be very accurate when it comes to college basketball recruiting intel.
Each of Slater and Donovan hinted on Monday afternoon that class of 2024 5-star forward Liam McNeeley may not take a visit to Texas scheduled for Sept. 22.  Slater is particularly noteworthy because of his connections across the college basketball landscape.  The Texas cancellation by McNeeley was subsequently reported by multiple outlets.
The home state Longhorns were once thought to be the leaders for the Richardson, Texas product.
McNeeley’s only recent visits have been to Indiana and Kansas.  We’ve written here extensively form months Indiana should be considered a strong contender for the Montverde Academy combo-forward.  Indiana is the only school where he took two official visits, including one just 10 days ago that could end up being his last.
Kansas has made a late push and could be a wildcard.  McNeeley visited there the week before his IU stop.
The Texas native has several former Division I basketball players in his family, and it isn’t surprising to see his recruitment come down to a couple of basketball oriented schools.
McNeeley told The Daily Hoosier in January what he was prioritizing in his recruitment.
“Obviously a great basketball school that’s going to help get me to the NBA, and also a great academic school, because that’s important to me,” McNeeley said.  “But most important, a coach that cares about me as much off the court as he does on the court.  Playing style and teammates will be important too.”
Mike Woodson and the full IU staff was in to visit McNeeley and his Montverde teammates on Monday.
McNeeley is expected to announce a commitment before the November early signing period.
