NBA Rumors: 3 Playoff contenders that would benefit from signing Christian Wood before the start of NBA Training Camp.
It’s been almost two months since NBA free agency opened and practically every notable name has been scooped up. But one surprising player who hasn’t been signed is Christian Wood. Wood has been an extremely productive offensive player over the last few seasons and plenty of teams would be noticeably improved with him on the roster.
We explore three playoff contenders that would benefit from signing Wood heading into the start of the season.
The Miami Heat are the most obvious destination for Christian Wood. In fact, he’s already expressed interest in joining the Heat. Unfortunately, Miami doesn’t feel the same way, but I don’t know why.
Wood is precisely what the Heat needs. Miami struggled mightily during the regular season and at times in the playoffs scoring the ball. Especially in the frontcourt positions outside of Bam Adebayo. Christian provides an All-Star-level offensive skillset. He can score inside, he can help space the floor from 3, and he’s not as bad of a defender as people think.
Really the only question is the contract. At this point, Wood may be willing to bank on himself this year and take a minimum deal. He’d play on a contending team and if he performs he’ll be paid handsomely next offseason.
I still believe this destination is a possible one for Wood, but it will seemingly depend on what happens with Dame and Miami.
