2023-24 SCHEDULE

NEW ORLEANS, La. – On the heels of the Southland Conference’s announcement of the 18-game schedule, 13th-year head coach Mark Slessinger has unveiled the complete 2023-24 schedule today. The Privateers will play 18 road contests and host 13 home games at Lakefront Arena, beginning with Millsaps College on Monday, November 6. The schedule also includes three Power 5 matchups.

“Our team and staff are excited about our non-conference schedule this year. We have worked each season to play an aggressive national schedule that will help prepare us for the rugged Southland Conference slate and our important conference tournament,” said Coach Slessinger.

“Going on the road to play tough games across the country against some great programs and universities allows us to give our student-athletes a great experience. This also allows us to promote our tremendous University, as well as serve as ambassadors for our beloved City.”

New Orleans will host the neighboring SUNO Knights in their homecoming matchup on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The Privateers will have six days to prepare for a road swing which will include four games in nine days starting with Loyola-Chicago Saturday, Nov. 17. and Oklahoma State Monday, Nov. 20., for the first time since 2016.

Next, New Orleans will head to Conway, Arkansas for the Central Arkansas Classic for a pair of contests against North Dakota Saturday, Nov. 25, and former Southland foe, UCA, in Sunday, Nov. 26. Before concluding the road stretch, the Privateers will face Big Ten opponent Minnesota Thursday, Nov. 30.

New Orleans will open December with a home matchup against Belhaven University on Tuesday, Dec. 5. before heading west for a pair of bouts against San Jose State, who they met twice during the 2012-2013 season, Saturday, Dec. 9, and San Fracisco Monday, Dec.11. The Privateers will return to the Lakefront once more in the regular season to host Birmingham Southern on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
Around Christmas, New Orleans will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes Tuesday, Dec. 21, and Stephen F. Austin on Friday, Dec. 29,  for a final tune-up before Southland Conference play.
This season marks a new format for league games as the Southland schedule features doubleheaders on Saturdays and men’s basketball on Monday with the exception being the final contest on the Lakefront against McNeese on Wednesday, March 6.
League play officially tips off January 6 and New Orleans has a three-game homestand to begin SLC action with Southeastern, Texas A&M-Commerce (Jan. 8) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 13).
New Orleans will host Northwestern State Jan. 20, UIW Feb. 3, HCU Feb. 5, Lamar Feb. 17, and Nicholls Feb. 19.
New Orleans finished the 2022-23 season winning six out of their final eight games and will return all five starters from that late season run, including the NCAA three-point percentage leader, Jordan Johnson. Coach Slessinger will also welcome six newcomers to the Lakefront.
The 2024 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament will be held at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, La. from March 10-14. All times and dates are subject to change.
