NBA news: Milwaukee Bucks big man Bobby Portis is in the midst of one of the biggest challenges of his professional career. The 28-year-old has been selected to take part in Team USA’s quest for a gold medal in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, and while he’s far from the brightest star on the squad, Portis is still expected to play a major role in the upcoming international tournament.

One of the difficulties Portis has faced is the adjustments required playing under FIBA rules. The Bucks veteran was asked about the challenges of this major shift, to which Portis responded with a mic drop message:

Hard is not for me, man. Hard is for the single mom with four kids. This is what I do,” Portis said. “… Single mom, struggling to provide for her kids, that’s hard.”

He’s absolutely right. Being a professional basketball player has got to be one of the hardest jobs in the world, but as Portis said, it pales in comparison to the struggles a single mom has to go through in order to make sure that her kids have food on their plates.
Portis, who himself has been through his fair share of difficulties throughout his colorful NBA career, isn’t being arrogant here. He’s merely looking at all this from a big-picture perspective — and you have to admire him for doing so.

Portis’ recent comments are reminiscent of Damian Lillard’s previous statement many years ago. The Portland Trail Blazers superstar was once asked to comment about the pressure he’s facing in the NBA, and Dame responded with one of the most memorable statements of all time:

“Pressure, nah. Fam, this is just playing ball,” Lillard said (h/t Kimberly Richards of HuffPost. “Pressure is the homeless man, who doesn’t know where his next meal is coming from. Pressure is the single mom, who is trying to scuffle and pay her rent.

“We get paid a lot of money to play a game. Don’t get me wrong ― there are challenges. But to call it pressure is almost an insult to regular people.”

Just like what Portis did recently, Damian Lillard put everything into perspective with this statement. Clearly, this is the mindset the seven-time All-Star has lived by all these years.
