The Boston Celtics suffered only one double-digit loss in the final 32 games of the 2021-22 season – a defeat for which Oshae Brissett was largely responsible. Boston, winners of 11 of its previous 12 games, received a surprise mauling from the Pacers, who rode the hot shooting hand of an unexpected hero. Brissett led all scorers with 27 points on a career-best 6-of-9 clip from 3-point range, pacing Indiana to a 128-107 win. It was the most points Boston had surrendered in 40 games. Brissett also grabbed six rebounds and had a game-best plus/minus rating of plus-25. He played nearly 34 minutes without committing a turnover, all while helping to limit Jayson Tatum to a 7-of-22 shooting effort on the other end.
After completing two consecutive 10-day contracts with the Pacers, Oshae Brissett was given the opportunity on April 21, 2021 to sign a multiyear contract with the team. Later that night in a matchup with Oklahoma City, he convinced the organization that it made the right decision. Making a spot start at center for a shorthanded Indy team, Brissett poured in 23 points to go along with 12 rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks. The 6-foot-7 temporary big man both out-rebounded and out-blocked his 7-foot-2 counterpart, Moses Brown, while leading the Pacers to a 122-116 win. Brissett was the only Pacers starter to record a positive plus/minus, finishing with a plus-12 during a game-high 42 minutes of action.
Brissett had himself a shootout with Nets guard Kyrie Irving during the 2021-22 regular-season finale, resulting in a two-sided, high-scoring affair at Barclays Center. The Indiana forward posted team highs of 28 points and eight rebounds, as he connected on 10-of-20 from the field (5-of-10 from both inside and outside the 3-point arc). Meanwhile, Irving led the Nets with 35 points and seven boards on a magnificent, 15-of-20 shooting effort. Irving’s seven-point advantage over Brissett proved to be the difference in a 134-126 Nets win; however, it was still a high note to end the season on for the 23-year-old Pacer.
From an efficiency standpoint, March 20, 2022 was a career night for Brissett. Scoring nearly a point per minute, Brissett dropped 24 into the scoring column against Portland in just over 25 minutes of action. With an 8-of-10 shooting effort, he missed only once from inside the arc and once from outside the arc, while also shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He grabbed nine rebounds, turned the ball over just once, and was a plus-20 during Indy’s 129-98 blowout of the Trail Blazers. And he threw down a pretty sweet reverse dunk in the process.
Brissett could not have scripted a better day than May 16, 2021. That’s when he delivered the best performance of his career in the biggest game of Indiana’s season while playing in his hometown and against his former team. In the regular-season finale at Toronto, Brissett erupted for a career-best 31 points on 10-of-16 shooting (5-of-8 from both inside and outside the arc), corralled 10 rebounds, and dished out three assists in 36 minutes of turnover-free basketball. Not only did Brissett’s game-high scoring effort ensure a 125-113 win, but it also locked the Pacers into ninth place and secured homecourt advantage for their first play-in game against the Charlotte Hornets (during which Brissett would achieve another game-high of 23 points in a 144-117 win). It was about as perfect of a homecoming as the Toronto native could have hoped for, and was without a doubt the biggest performance of his career to date.
