NBA free agency will kick off this Friday at 6 p.m. ET. That is when teams are able to start negotiating contracts with teams being able to sign free agents and shape their roster with the season set to begin in October. Following the first round exit in the playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks are looking for a fresh start with their new head coach Adrian Griffin. It has been just over a week since the NBA draft, and the Bucks added multiple young players as they look to freshen up the roster.
One of the biggest reasons for the Bucks’ exit was being unable to stop Jimmy Butler and not throwing different looks at him to slow him down. With this being said, the wing position is one that the Bucks need to add more depth. Here are 3 wings the Milwaukee Bucks should target in free agency.
The first target is one that is very familiar to Bucks fans. Torrey Craig was on the Bucks roster between November 2020 and March 2021 before being traded to the Phoenix Suns for cash considerations, then falling to his former team in the NBA finals.
At 32, Craig is an experienced wing and has always been a part of winning rosters in Phoenix, and prior to Milwaukee, he spent three years with the Denver Nuggets. He may not be the youthful wing fans would want, but he adds some defensive steel from the wing position that was missed in the postseason.
This season he played 79 games for the Suns, averaging 7.4 points and shooting almost 40 percent from three-point range. He would be the replacement for Jae Crowder if he were to leave following a lack of playing time in the playoffs, however, reports suggest the Bucks are looking to retain Crowder. The only issue is that Phoenix does have early Bird rights on Craig, so it would depend on what their front office is willing to do.
Craig may not fit the youthful route the Bucks are hoping to go, but his experience and defensive capabilities would be of use to Milwaukee.
