Compared to previous years, it feels like the Milwaukee Bucks plan on relying more on their youth moving forward.
Coach Adrian Griffin has a well-documented track record when it comes to player development, and there’s hope that he can bring that skill to Milwaukee. The team seemingly had this in mind as they entered the 2023 NBA Draft, where they added several more young players to the roster for Griffin to work with.
It’s no secret that Milwaukee’s roster, which was the oldest in the NBA last season, was a major factor in their playoff downfall. This team needed young players who could get up and down the floor and showcase their athleticism, which the front office has added. Yet, they should not stop there, as there will be several intriguing free agents who could help even more.
With that said, let us look at five free agent targets under 25 for the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks are in a strange spot regarding their point guard position. Jrue Holiday is locked up on his contract, but Jevon Carter has a player option and can hit free agency. Even if the Bucks were to keep both, this team could use another guard for depth. That’s why taking a flyer on someone like R.J. Hampton could be worthwhile.
It’s been a turbulent three years for Hampton, who has suited up for three franchises in that span, including the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and Detroit Pistons. The guard hasn’t been able to carve out a role for himself anywhere, and while some may consider that a red flag, perhaps the 22-year-old just needs the right situation. Circling back to Carter, he struggled to make a name for himself before he landed in Milwaukee as well.
Hampton hasn’t gotten a legitimate shot at playing time outside of 26 contests with the Magic in 2020-21 following a trade. Averaging 25.2 minutes per game in that span, the guard put up some quality numbers with 11.2 points, five rebounds, and 2.8 assists. The potential is there; Hampton just needs to land in the right spot for it to be unearthed. Bringing Hampton aboard would be very low-risk for Milwaukee and would also help fortify their point guard depth.
