FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ men’s basketball team is scheduled to open the 2023-24 season against Alcorn State.
The game, which is set for Monday, Nov. 6 in Fayetteville, was discovered through a Freedom of Information Act request. A game time has not been determined.
The Braves, who are entering their fourth season under head coach Landon Bussie, finished 18-14 overall and 15-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play last season. The 18 wins were the program’s most since 2016-17.
Alcorn State has won back-to-back regular-season SWAC titles. The Braves have won 29 conference games the past two seasons.
Arkansas is 5-0 all-time against Alcorn State. The programs have not met since December 2012, when the Razorbacks won 97-59 behind 18 points from Marshawn Powell.
Arkansas guard Rotnei Clarke scored a school-record 51 points the last time the Braves played the Razorbacks in a season opener in 2009-10. He was 15 of 21 from the field, including 13 of 17 from three-point range to set an SEC record for most three-pointers made in a game.
There are eight known opponents on Arkansas’ upcoming non-conference schedule, which is highlighted by a game against Duke at Bud Walton Arena on Nov. 29 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
The Razorbacks will also play three games at Battle 4 Atlantis in The Bahamas on Nov. 22-24. Matchups have not been announced for that tournament, which includes a field of North Carolina, Villanova, Michigan, Memphis, Texas Tech, Stanford and Northern Iowa.
