The Seattle Storm fell into an ironic situation. Inclement weather back home in the Pacific Northwest caused them to take a major detour in their travel plans for their next games.
The Associated Press reported that the Storm’s operation staff arrived at the airport and were told the flight had been canceled due to storms in Seattle. The team had to act so that they could navigate, as the next available flight wasn’t able to be executed due to scheduling conflicts. So, they giddied up and shot down the highway to Washington D.C. via bus.
“The next direct flight out the team could get that would be able to accommodate its 24-person travel party was Wednesday — a day after the game,” the AP wrote via ESPN.com. “There were also limited seats available on Amtrak trains to Washington on the heels of a holiday week.
“After checking with the bus company that the driver would be allowed to take the team to Washington, the Storm picked up their staff at LaGuardia Airport and headed south for the potentially five-hour drive to D.C,” they said.
WNBA teams go through some crazy travel issues at times. Some of them were inflicted by the weather, others by their own design. But this trip for the Storm was a bit brutal and definitely very ironic.
