Men’s Basketball To Host Wisconsin In The Gavitt Games – Providence College Athletics

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  It was announced today (May 24) by the BIG EAST Conference and the Big Ten Conference that the Providence College men’s basketball team will host the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2023 Gavitt Games on Tuesday, November 14.  The time of the game will be determined at a later date.

The Gavitt Games is a unique early-season series played between the two conferences and named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and the former Friar head coach.

The Friars have registered a 2-3 mark all-time in the Gavitt Games.  The Friars defeated Illinois, 60-59, on November 18, 2015 and earned a 63-58 victory at Wisconsin on November 15, 2021.  The team’s three losses in the Gavitt Games were at Ohio State (72-67) on November 17, 2016, versus Minnesota (86-74) on November 13, 2017 and at Northwestern (72-63) on November 13, 2019.

The Friars are 4-1 all-time versus Wisconsin, including 1-0 in the Gavitt Games and 2-0 in Providence.  In the most recent meeting between the two teams in Providence, the Friars defeated the Badgers, 58-57, on December 11, 1995.
