All Michigan State University campus activities, including sporting events and classes, have been canceled for 48 hours after on-campus shootings claimed the lives of three people Monday night, police said.
Canceled events include the Michigan State versus Minnesota men’s basketball game, originally scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET, campus police said at a news conference.

Police confirmed that three victims died in the incidents while five were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition. All eight victims were identified as Michigan State students.
MSU police reported shots fired around 8:20 p.m. ET inside Berkey Hall, an academic building on the East Lansing campus, The Associated Press reported. Another shooting was also reported near the MSU union building, police said.
Police issued a shelter-in-place order for everyone on campus and in the community while they searched for the suspect. Police later located the gunman, identified as 43-year-old Anthony McRae, away from the MSU campus. McRae died of a self-inflicted gunshot, according to the Michigan State Police. Campus police released photos of the suspect from the school’s security cameras and a caller’s tip led officers to McRae.
The shelter-in-place on campus was lifted Monday night.
Michigan State last played Sunday against Ohio State, defeating the Buckeyes 62-41. The Spartans are 16-9 this season, with an 8-6 record during conference play.
