Former San Diego State forward Keshad Johnson – who entered the NCAA transfer portal after the Aztecs’ run to the 2023 national championship game – is currently on a visit to USC, per a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Johnson, a four-year contributor at SDSU, also declared for the NBA draft when he entered the portal, but he maintains one season of collegiate eligibility.
Johnson, at 6-foot-7 and 225-pounds, started all 71 games across the last two seasons and has 113 games of experience overall. The 2022-23 campaign was his best to date, as he averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. He shot 53.2% from the field, down slightly from the career-best mark of 55.3% that he posted as a junior.
Johnson was a key figure in San Diego State’s postseason success. He scored 14 points in the national championship game against UConn, good for his third-best outing of the year. He also averaged 4.1 rebounds per game in the NCAA Tournament.
The former three-star recruit from San Leandro (Calif.) signed with San Diego State in the 2019 class over offers from Washington State, Georgetown, Cincinnati and others. He was the 57th-ranked power forward prospect in the class.
Johnson’s visit to USC comes after the Trojans put together a 22-11 season and reached the NCAA Tournament as a No. 10 seed. Head coach Andy Enfield and his squad finished the regular season in a tie for second place in the Pac-12 and bowed out in the first round of March Madness with a loss to Michigan State.
“First off, I want to thank God for his glory and guidance throughout my whole journey,” he said in his April 12 announcement. “I would also like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and other loved ones for their unconditional love and support every step of the way.
“To the Aztec Nation, I offer you my gratitude and appreciation; Showtime will always cherish the time spent with you.”
In the first year of the portal windows, the college basketball transfer portal began March 13 and runs until May 11.
Numerous graduate transfers already entered the transfer portal prior to the March 13 opening, but that date kicked off the 60-day window for the rest of the prospective transfers to hop in the portal to examine their options. The one-time transfer rule is still intact, per usual. If a player has not transferred yet, they are immediately eligible.

Name, image and likeness is going to be a factor in the transfer portal. It’s no coincidence that some of the teams who continue to dominate the transfer portal also have structured NIL opportunities set up.
