The Boston Celtics have already made a big trade for an all-star this summer in an attempt to revamp their roster after falling short in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat. Despite beating Boston, Miami is on the hunt for a star in Damian Lillard and were they to acquire him, they could be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.
But what if the Celtics were to step in, making the Portland Trail Blazers an offer and stealing Dame from their rivals? Sounds crazy, right? Probably, but the Celtics could actually put together a surprisingly strong trade package that rivals or even surpasses the Heat’s. At the very least, it could force the asset-strapped Heat to dig deep to land Dame.
With them putting all of their eggs in the star basket, that could really hurt Miami and make it difficult for them to build around a new core of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Lillard. That would obviously benefit the Celtics, who have been beaten in the playoffs two of the last four seasons by the Heat and could use an edge against their rival.
But what could Boston offer the Blazers, and could they actually swoop in and land Dame? Next, we’ll take a look at a hypothetical trade involving the Celtics and Blazers.
