The Purdue men’s basketball 2023-2024 season doesn’t officially begin until Nov. 6, when the Boilermakers take on Samford at home.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be any Purdue basketball before then.
The Boilermakers head to Europe for a four-game foreign tour in Germany, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic, with the first game scheduled for Aug. 9.

The games will be the first for Purdue since their 2023 season came to a dramatic end.
Purdue went 29-8 and was one of the best teams in the country throughout the regular season. The Boilermakers were the Big Ten regular season and tournament champions.
Although a No. 1 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the Boilermakers lost to No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson in one of the biggest upsets in March Madness history.
This upcoming season, Purdue is again projected to be one of the premier programs in college basketball. The Boilermakers return 10 players from last year’s team, including National Player of the Year Zach Edey.
Purdue will play four games in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Here’s the schedule:
All four Purdue men’s basketball foreign tour games will stream live on FloHoops and the FloSports app.
FloSports will also stream foreign tour games for Tennessee, Creighton and Xavier, among other programs.
Here’s what the non-conference schedule for the Boilermakers looks like as of July 2023.
After much speculation and deliberation, Zach Edey decided to remove himself from the NBA draft and return to the Boilermakers for his senior season. The impact of the returning National Player of the Year cannot be understated.
Last season, Edey averaged 22.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.5 assists per game.
Due to his performance, Edey won all six of the major national player of the year awards, including:
The return of the 7-foot-4, 305-pound center from Toronto is one of the big reasons Purdue is ranked high in many “way-too-early” polls.
Including Edey, the Boilermakers have retained a whopping 10 players from last year’s squad.
With these players returning, Purdue has virtually the same team from last season.
Purdue players returning:
Since most of the players from last year are returning, Purdue only had one scholarship commit for this recruiting class. That commit is four-star shooting guard Myles Colvin.
Purdue obtained two other walk-on players in the class of 2023 with Indiana natives Jace Rayl and Josh Furst.
The Boilermakers also added a shooting guard through the portal in Southern Illinois transfer Lance Jones.
Painter is one of the most familiar names in college basketball due to his long tenure as the coach of Purdue dating to 2005. A former standout guard for the Boilermakers under legendary coach Gene Keady, Painter returned to his alma mater in 2004 and replaced Keady in 2005 as the head coach. Before coaching at Purdue, Painter was the head coach at Southern Illinois for two seasons.
Painter has won Big Ten Coach of the Year four times and won NABC Coach of the Year in 2019.
