UCLA Men's Basketball Prepares for Upcoming Trip to Spain – UCLA – UCLA Athletics
Men’s Basketball
The UCLA men’s basketball program will travel to Spain from Aug. 20-30, playing three games over the course of a nine-day stay while touring Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona.
After arriving in Madrid on Monday, Aug. 21, the Bruins are scheduled to face one all-star team and two professional teams in Spain. UCLA will take on the Madrid All-Stars the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 22, before facing Valencia Basket on Thursday, Aug. 24. The Bruins’ final game will take place outside of Barcelona against Girona CB on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 29. With regard to a time difference, Spain operates in the Central European Time Zone, which runs nine hours ahead of Los Angeles.
“This trip to Spain comes at a great time for our program,” said Mick Cronin, The Michael Price Family UCLA Men’s Head Basketball Coach. “We have brought in some talented, young players this summer. Spending time together in Spain can really help our guys to grow. We are excited about this trip, and it will give our young men a chance to see a different part of the world. From a basketball standpoint, I hope that the teams we face will provide us with a really good opportunity to improve. We’re a little less than three months from starting our season, and we have plenty of room for teaching, development and growth.”
In addition to playing three basketball games, the Bruins’ student-athletes and coaches will be able to experience various sight-seeing excursions, away from the court. While in Madrid, the team will be visiting nearby Toledo, as well as Madrid’s Royal Palace. During the stay in Valencia, the Bruins will spend an afternoon touring Oceanográfic Valéncia, the largest aquarium in Europe. While in Barcelona, sight-seeing plans will include a tour of the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia as well as opportunities to see the Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas.
UCLA’s 15-man roster includes seven student-athletes who were on the team in 2022-23. Contributors from last season’s team who are back this season include sophomores Dylan Andrews, Adem Bona and Will McClendon and redshirt senior Kenneth Nwuba. UCLA’s three other returning players include junior Logan Cremonesi and second-year players Evan Manjikian and Jack Seidler (Seidler redshirted in 2022-23).
The Bruins’ program has brought in eight newcomers – seven freshmen and one junior (transfer). Lazar Stefanovic arrived on campus earlier this summer as a rising junior after having spent the past two seasons at the University of Utah. UCLA’s incoming freshmen include Berke Buyuktuncel, Ilane Fibleuil, Sebastian Mack, Aday Mara, Jan Vide, Brandon Williams and Devin Williams (no relation).
