Moneyball Pro-Am basketball 2023 schedule, rosters, MSU pairings … – Lansing State Journal

The Lansing Moneyball Pro-Am summer basketball league rosters and schedule are set, again featuring Michigan State’s men’s basketball players — two per team — and other collegiate and former college players from around the state and Midwest, including much of Grand Valley State’s roster.
Games begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Holt High School. The league picks up again after the July 4th holiday on Thursday, July 6 and, from there, runs every Tuesday and Thursday through Aug. 3, with games at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission is free, with donations welcome.
This is the 18th year of the Moneyball Pro-Am, named for Moneyball Sportswear and organized by Moneyball founder Desmond Ferguson, a former Everett High School and University of Detroit star, who played in the summer pro-am for its first decade, during his pro career mostly overseas. The league took off as must-see summer entertainment during the Miles Bridges years.
This year’s top storylines begin with the arrival of MSU’s much-anticipated freshman class of Xavier Booker, Jeremy Fears Jr., Coen Carr and Gehrig Normand. NCAA rules allow no more than two players from the same college team on a pro-am team. Booker is paired with A.J. Hoggard. Carr and Normand are together. Fears is on his own. Other MSU pairings include Jaden Akins and Mady Sissoko, Tyson Walker and Carson Cooper, and Tre Holloman and Jaxon Kohler. Malik Hall, coming off foot surgery, is not taking part this summer.
In the first game on opening night (6 p.m. Thursday), Fears’ team faces Hoggard and Booker’s squad. Followed by Holloman and Kohler against Walker and Cooper (7 p.m.). Then the team with Normand and Carr plays Akins and Sissoko in the nightcap (8 p.m.).
