The 2024 college basketball transfer portal is officially closed as of 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Any player with a desire to transfer had to have their paperwork submitted by end of day on May 1.
Over 1,900 players entered the transfer portal for the 2024 cycle. Tennessee added three of those players to the fix and is in the mix for one more, while four players elected to exit the program.
Junior forward Jonas Aidoo transferred to Arkansas, sophomore forward Tobe Awaka committed to Arizona, redshirt-freshman guard DJ Jefferson committed to Penn State and fellow redshirt-freshmen guard DJ Jefferson picked Longwood.
To replenish the roster, Rick Barnes went out and added Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar, Ohio State center Felix Okpara and Charlotte forward Igor Milicic Jr. The Vols are also currently recruiting North Florida transfer guard Chaz Lanier after he recently entered the transfer portal.
Here’s a look at where Tennessee’s transfer additions — and lone target — ranked in 247Sports final 2024 transfer rankings that were published on Thursday.
North Florida transfer guard Chaz Lanier (uncommitted)
247Sports national basketball analyst Travis Branham: “Chaz Lanier exponentially improved his game this season and became one of the best players in the A-SUN. He’s a dynamic scoring guard who can drills shots from three. He is at his best when he attacks off the dribble and finishes above the rim. If you are looking for a potential ‘Dalton Knecht’ in the portal, this could very well be the guy.”
Tennessee forward Jonas Aidoo (signed with Arkansas)
Branham: “Jonas Aidoo can impact the game as a lob-catcher, screener, rebounder and rim protector. He is a talent that has proven to be productive in the SEC already.”
Ohio State center Felix Okpara (signed with Tennessee)
Rick Barnes when Okpara signed: “We are thrilled to have Felix join us here on Rocky Top. He comes from a great family and is an exceptional teammate whose primary goal is to win. Felix is an elite shot blocker, high-level defender and terrific rebounder. He possesses the ability to score in the low post, as well as play on the perimeter. A mobile athlete with excellent length who creates space offensively, Felix is a constant threat to get to the rim for a lob. We will do everything we can to help him further develop all aspects of his game.”
Tennessee guard Freddie Dilione V (signed with Penn State)
Penn State coach Rhoades on Dilione: “Our relationship with Freddie and his family goes back several years and we’re beyond excited to have him join us at Penn State. Freddie is a very talented and versatile guard who will thrive in our up-tempo style of play. He will be a great addition to our Penn State basketball family both on and off the court.”
Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar (signed with Tennessee)
Barnes on Dubar: “We are pleased to welcome Darlinstone and his supportive family into the Tennessee basketball program. He is already an accomplished collegian who will add a lot to our team. Darlinstone is a true competitor and you know what you will get from him every day. A versatile player who can excel at multiple positions, he is an excellent 3-point shooter who can also knock down midrange shots and finish at the rim. Darlinstone brings toughness and a strong work ethic, both of which will mesh well with the players already in our locker room.”
Tennessee forward Tobe Awaka (signed with Arizona)
Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd on Awaka: “Tobe brings an energy and toughness around the basket that you cannot teach, with a passion for rebounding that is second to none. He’s an extremely bright young man that has been well-coached throughout his career so far and we look forward to having him join the Arizona basketball family.”
Charlotte forward Igor Milicic Jr. (committed to Tennessee)
