College basketball transfer portal: Best available prospects after top names come off the board – 247Sports

on

Less than two weeks remain in the college basketball transfer portal window as big-name prospects continue to enter. Action this spring still surges at a record-setting pace with more than 1,700 players in the transfer portal as of this past Monday. However, only about 200 of those prospects have made a decision on their next destination.
Even after a busy week of transfer commitments — including some top names in the portal like Arizona big man Oumar Ballo to Indiana and Wisconsin leading scorer AJ Storr to Kansas — more than half of the top 50 transfer prospects of the 2024 cycle are still available
A jam-packed weekend of transfer recruiting visits expects to lead to more commitment decisions from a few of the top prospects left on the board, likely causing a shakeup in the early college basketball transfer portal team rankings. The spring portal window remains open until May 1.

Below is a closer look at the updated best available prospects in the college basketball transfer portal as of Saturday at 5:25 p.m. ET:
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 97 rating | No. 1 SG | No. 2 overall
Johnell Davis, one of the top overall transfer prospects this cycle, remains uncommitted for the 2024-25 season despite early beliefs he would follow former Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May to Michigan. The market value for Davis remains high as he searches for a destination ahead of what will be his final year of eligibility. The 6-foot-4, 203-pound guard averaged career highs with 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this past season. Davis shot 48.3% from the field and 41.4% from 3-point range. Davis played a key role in helping Florida Atlantic reach the 2023 Final Four and brings 128 games of experience as a proven veteran guard.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 97 rating | No. 2 C | No. 5 overall
Former Utah State standout and Mountain West Player of the Year Great Osobor is the top available big man in the portal. He too was expected to follow his previous head coach to a new destination as Danny Sprinkle departed for Washington, but that also is no longer a guaranteed outcome. Kentucky and new head coach Mark Pope could be a contender to watch for Osobor. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound center averaged 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 57.7% from the field this season.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 1 PG | No. 7 overall
Javon Small became the top-rated transfer point guard when he entered the portal in early April. After just one season at Oklahoma State, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound do-it-all guard is on the move again having started his career at East Carolina. Small led the Cowboys with 15.1 points and 4.1 assists while adding 4.7 rebounds per game. He shot 44.1% from the field, including 37.4% from 3-point range. Small visited Miami this past week and has a couple additional high-major programs in the mix, as well.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 3 C | No. 8 overall
Rutgers big man Clifford Omoruyi is still available despite early expectations that his transfer recruitment would move quickly. St. John’s initially jumped out as the favorite, but now a list of high-major programs are now in the mix. Omoruyi spent four seasons at Rutgers and will use his additional year of eligibility elsewhere in 2024-25. The 6-foot-11, 240-pound center averaged double-digit scoring in each of his final three seasons with the Scarlet Knights, including 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game (third-most in Division I) during the 2023-24 campaign.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 2 PF | No. 11 overall
Jonas Aidoo could be a domino that triggers two massive transfer portal moves for Baylor. The former Tennessee power forward plans to visit Waco this weekend, according to 247Sports’ Travis Branham. Aidoo experienced somewhat of a breakout season for the Volunteers, moving into a role as a regular starter. The 6-foot-11, 241-pound big man averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks — all of which were career highs for the junior. Aidoo shot 51.5% from the field. He brings experience and certainly size as a viable transfer.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 2 PG | No. 12 overall
Tyrese Hunter is back in the transfer portal after two seasons at Texas. The former Big 12 Freshman of the Year at Iowa State in 2022 never quite reached his full potential with the Longhorns and seems better suited for a role as the primary scoring threat. Hunter still managed to average a career-high 11.1 points per game this past season, while adding 2.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists and 1.3 steals. He also shot a career-best 45.2% from the field and 34.3% from 3-point range. There should be plenty of high-major programs interested in a veteran guard like Hunter.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 3 PF | No. 13 overall
Texas lost a number of key pieces to the transfer portal this week, including sophomore Dillon Mitchell, who started in 71 of 72 games played during his two seasons in Austin. The 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward averaged 9.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 58.5% from the field. Mitchell is one of 13 former McDonald’s All-Americans to hit the transfer portal this cycle. He rated as a five-star prospect coming out of the 2022 class.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 2 CG | No. 14 overall
Aidan Mahaney hit the transfer portal this week after two seasons at Saint Mary’s. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound sophomore guard averaged 13.9 points per game both years with the Gaels, but experienced a slight decrease in efficiency this past season. He shot 38.6% from the field and 35.5% from 3-point range. Still, Mahaney instantly became one of the best available transfer prospects of this cycle upon entering, which is why a number of high-major programs are gauging interest right away.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 96 rating | No. 3 PG | No. 15 overall
Duke has seven outgoing transfers this cycle with a few entries this past week. Veteran guard Jeremy Roach joined that group of departing Blue Devils after four seasons in Durham. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard has an additional year of eligibility and may not waste much time finding his next destination. Baylor and head coach Scott Drew are the favorites to land Roach as one of the top transfer point guards. Roach recently had his best season yet at Duke, averaging 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 46.8% from the field and 42.9% from 3-point range.
Transfer Portal Ranking: 4-star | 95 rating | No. 4 C | No. 16 overall
Another former McDonald’s All-American currently in the portal, Oklahoma State big man Brandon Garrison entered shortly after the spring window began back in March. The 6-foot-11, 245-pound center averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks as a true freshman this past season. Garrison also started in 29 of 32 games for the Pokes. He did have a “do not contact” tag upon entering the portal last month, but has been connected to Oklahoma and Texas, where he visited this weekend.
