Mayo was downright dominant in The Summit League as a junior in 2023-24. The 6-foot-4 guard notched double-digit points in all but two of the Jacks’ 35 games last season. He finished with a team-high 18.8 points per game, which ranked fourth in the conference, to go along with 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest.
In 16 regular-season league games, Mayo averaged 21.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, shooting 47% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc. He came into the season as the league’s Preseason Player of the Year, and he lived up to the hype, garnering Summit League Player of the Year honors when it was all said and done. Mayo is the fifth Jackrabbit of all time to earn the league’s top award.

The Jacks went on to win their seventh Summit League Tournament title and their second in the last three years. They were awarded the No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament and finished with an overall record of 22-13 after falling to second-seeded Iowa State 82-65 in the opening round. Mayo was then named a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, which is given annually to the top mid-major player in men’s college basketball, and on April 2, he announced he was returning to his hometown of Lawrence, Kansas, to finish out his college career with coach Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks.
