Welcome to the 2024 Rutgers Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker. We will continue to bring live updates of all the latest transfer portal news. This will continue to be updated throughout what is expected to be a busy time for Rutgers Basketball.
Last October the Division I Council instituted changes to the basketball Transfer Portal, which dropped the 60 consecutive-day period to 45 consecutive days. That will make for a busy month of March and April for Rutgers Basketball.
Just three of Rutgers’ 13 scholarship players on the season-ending roster are out of eligibility. Rutgers also signed five commits in the class of 2024 which included five-stars Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper along with high three-stars Lathan Sommerville, Bryce Dortch and Dylan Grant. That gave Rutgers 15 scholarship players projected for the start of the 2024-25 season but the transfer portal is quickly adjusting that number.
TRANSFERS (INCOMING)
G Tyson Acuff – The Eastern Michigan guard was a scoring machine last year in the MAC, averaging 21.7 points per game. He has just one year of eligibility remaining but has the potential to play big minutes for the Scarlet Knights. He is a two-year starter and saw his scoring average jump seven points last year. Acuff should help Rutgers’ scoring as he shot
43.3% from the field last season, 29.2% from three-point range and 81.1% from the foul line.
F Zach Martini – Rutgers pulled in its second transfer of the offseason when Martini announced his plans following two visits to Piscataway. Martini fills a need at the forward position and brings Rutgers one step closer to filling out its roster for the upcoming season. Martini adds a shooter as Rutgers hasn’t had a perimeter shooter with his size in quite some time. He also brings a veteran presence and could fill a big role on both ends of the floor.
G Jordan Derkack – The Merrimack transfer was on the Rutgers radar a few weeks before his commitment. He gives Rutgers a defensive presence and will likely play a significant role as his skillset is complementary to Rutgers incoming five-stars Acw Bailey and Dylan Harper. Last season, Derkack was the NEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. His stat line for the season read 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
TRANSFERS (OUTGOING)
F Antonio Chol – The seldom-used second-year player was the first to flee. Chol’s departure came a day after the season ended and was no surprise. Chol played sparingly in just seven games this past season and managed to score just 12 points. Chol played in just one game in 2024 as his prior six appearances were all against non-conference opponents. His only Big Ten appearance came on Jan 21 in a three-minute run during a blowout loss to Illinois.

G Derek Simpson– With Dylan Harper and Jeremiah Williams expected to hold down the starting backcourt next season, the writing was on the wall for Simpson. He started this past season but is not a typical point guard and doesn’t have the defensive prowess head coach Steve Pikiell typically wants from his guards. The move was expected and it was not long before Simpson announced his plans to attend St. Joseph’s and play in the Atlantic 10.
F Antwone Woolfolk – After two years in the program, Woolfolk has decided to move on. The Cleveland native was playing regular minutes until Emmanuel Ogbole returned to health and overtook him in the pecking order. And now, with the summer arrival of Lathan Sommerville, there may not be enough minutes to go around. Woolfolk did not have the versatility to play a stretch four and was even limited as a power forward. His move does not come as a surprise, especially after his decreased playing time.
F Mawot Mag – After a lot of speculation, Mag opted to enter the transfer portal. This comes after he chose to sit out the last nine games of the season with a strained calf. Mag’s Rutgers career had some bright moments, but it was also bothered by injuries. He could have held down a starting role next season, but is looking to pursue NIL opportunities elsewhere.
C Clifford Omoruyi – The biggest loss to the transfer portal for Rutgers thus far as Omoruyi leaves behind big shoes to fill. He will likely command a lot of NIL money as a transfer and should be able to cash in big during his final season. Omoruyi expects to be one of the more sought-after centers in the portal and that will force Rutgers to start seeking out his replacement. Omoruyi spent a memorable four years at Rutgers and leaves as a fan favorite.
G Gavin Griffiths – One year in the program was all for Griffiths, a former four-star who did not live up to expectations. Griffiths averaged just 5.8 points per game and 28.2% shooting from three-point range. Griffiths’ departure did not come as a complete surprise as he was noticeably distraught on the bench at various points during the end of the season. His playing time decreased throughout the season as he finished with an average of 17.8 minutes per game. Griffiths committed to Nebraska after spending almost three weeks in the portal.
