Kentucky senior guard CJ Fredrick will give it a go against Auburn on Saturday.
Fredrick, who has missed the Wildcats’ past four games with a rib injury, went through Saturday’s pregame warmups with his teammates. Fredrick will wear a pad under his shirt to try to protect the injured rib.
Another UK senior guard still is on the mend — Sahvir Wheeler. A native of Houston, Saturday marks the sixth consecutive contest Wheeler hasn’t been available because of an ankle injury. He last appeared in a game in Kentucky’ 72-67 win over Florida in Lexington on Feb. 4.
Kentucky’s men’s basketball team team has just three regular-season games remaining. That includes Saturday’s home game.
The Wildcats (19-9, 10-5 SEC), winners of three straight, now are alone in third place in the conference, trailing only Alabama (14-1) and Texas A&M (13-2). The Tigers (19-9, 9-6) have lost four of their past six, but they are coming off a 78-74 victory over Ole Miss Wednesday.

The Wildcats possess a sizable lead in their series with the Tigers, owning a 96-23 advantage heading into Saturday’s game. Of late, however, the Tigers have held the upper hand, winning four of the last six meetings. Auburn’s first win in that run: a 77-71 overtime thriller in an Elite Eight tilt in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2019, which sent the program to its first-ever Final Four.
John Calipari is 13-6 against Auburn since becoming Kentucky’s coach prior to the 2009-10 season. But the series is nearly even since Bruce Pearl took over the Tigers’ program in 2014. Since then, the Wildcats are just 7-6 versus the Tigers.
The good news for UK Saturday? Auburn has won just two times in 52 trips to Lexington, with its last coming in 1988, when it stunned top-ranked Kentucky 53-52. (The Tigers’ other win in Lexington was in 1983.)
