COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Women’s Basketball will compete in the inaugural SEC/ACC Challenge at 4 p.m. CT Thursday against Virginia (4-2, 0-0 ACC). The road contest will air on the ACC Network.
The Tigers look to add to the win column after splitting a pair of matchups against Tennessee Tech and Kent State at the Daytona Beach Classic last week.
Graduate forward Haley Frank recorded a career-high 30 points on Saturday against the Golden Flashes. Frank currently ranks sixth on the program’s all-time scoring leaderboard. The graduate stands 120 points shy of Sharon Farrah (1975-79) for fifth.
Sophomore guard Ashton Judd also contributed in Saturday’s contest with 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Senior guard Mama Dembele recorded six points, four assists, and four rebounds with a season-high 39 minutes played against the Golden Flashes.
Dembele currently ranks third nationally (No. 2 SEC) with 49 assists and sixth in the country with 24 steals (No. 3 SEC).
The Tigers have displayed a high-efficiency offense this season as Missouri ranks 27th nationally in field-goal percentage at 47.59%.
Missouri scored 83+ points in four consecutive contests from Nov. 9-20. It marked the first time the program accomplished the statistical feat since Dec. 9-29th, 1989
Cavaliers come into Thursday’s matchup on the heels of a three-point loss to No. 7 LSU on Saturday. The Cavaliers are led by second-year head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton who guided her team to a 15-win season just a year ago.
Agugua-Hamilton served as the head coach at Missouri State for three years as she posted three 20+ win seasons in her time as a Bear.
The Cavalier’s scoring effort is commanded by fifth-year forward Camryn Taylor, graduate forward Sam Brunelle and freshman guard Kymora Johnson who all average double-digits this season.
The formation of the ACC/SEC challenge brings an end to the long-time ACC/Big Ten and SEC/Big 12 Challenges. This year’s women’s ACC/SEC challenge consists of 28 teams and 14 games over two days.
