ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands — The Texas women’s basketball team kicked off the Paradise Jam with an 84-42 win over Arizona State on Thursday.
Texas (5-0) outscored Arizona State 21-6 in the third quarter and held the Sun Devils to 19 points in the second half. The Longhorns limited ASU to 17-of-49 (34.7 percent) shooting from the field.
Khadija Faye scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Rori Harmon tallied 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Shaylee Gonzales scored in double-figures with 10 points.
The Longhorns will take on High Point on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT in their second game of the Paradise Jam.
Postgame notes
• Rori Harmon moved into eighth on the Longhorns all-time list for career assists. She now has 447 for her career. Harmon has dished out 39 assists this season through five games.
• Texas forced Arizona State into 27 turnovers. For the season the Longhorns have forced opponents into 134 turnovers and have committed 54 themselves. The Longhorns held a 24-8 advantage in points off turnovers against the Sun Devils.
• Texas outrebounded Arizona State 47-32, including grabbing 21 offensive rebounds and holding a 18-1 edge in second chance points. The Longhorns have an 110-21 advantage over opponents in second chance points this season.
• The Longhorns limited ASU to eight points in the first quarter and six points in the third quarter. Texas has now held opponents to single digits in a quarter seven times this season.
• All 10 players that saw action for the Longhorns scored in the game.
• Texas scored 46 points in the paint and outscored ASU 46-28 in paint points. The Longhorns also held a 21-5 edge in fast break points.
