NBA Rumors: Milwaukee Bucks Give Up Major Haul in Proposed … – Wisconsin Sports Heroics
There is still one major issue for the Milwaukee Bucks ahead of the new season. With the four starting spots already locked in, there is still a big question mark surrounding who the fifth one is going to be.
Grayson Allen started at shooting guard last season for the Bucks, but now that he’s moved on to greener pastures, new coach Adrian Griffin will need to determine who’s going to fill that void.
Milwaukee Bucks Trade for Gary Harris
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report suggests that Milwaukee take the trade route to fill that fifth starting role. He argues that while new recruit Malik Beasley now appears to have the inside track toward a starting gig in 2023-24, this notion still “can’t be super encouraging considering he just lost his rotation spot during the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff run.”
According to Buckley, the Bucks should make a move on veteran two-guard Gary Harris of the Orlando Magic. Below are the details of the proposed deal:
Milwaukee gets: Gary Harris
Orlando gets: Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp, Andre Jackson Jr.
Grayson Allen was no star, but he played his role for the Bucks well last season. He was a competent defender with the ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting. This is exactly what Milwaukee needs from their starting shooting guard, and Buckley argues that Harris fits the bill considerably well:
“Harris, 29, could be perfect for the job, as he’s long been a defensive menace and thankfully rediscovered his long-distance shot after it disappeared for a few seasons. Since the start of 2021-22, he has averaged 1.9 threes per outing on 40.4 percent shooting,” Buckley wrote.
Bucks Give Up Massive Haul
“Harris, 29, could be perfect for the job, as he’s long been a defensive menace and thankfully rediscovered his long-distance shot after it disappeared for a few seasons. Since the start of 2021-22, he has averaged 1.9 threes per outing on 40.4 percent shooting,” Buckley wrote.
The issue here for the Bucks is they will need to give up quite a lot for this deal to work.
For starters, Pat Connaughton has been a key piece for the team’s second unit over the past several years. While he may not be on Gary Harris’ level, one could argue that Connaughton can also match what Harris brings to the table, albeit to a varying degree.
Losing MarJon Beauchamp and Andre Jackson Jr. will be even tougher. These two are Milwaukee’s most prized young assets, and while you might understand why the team would let these two youngsters go in favor of a player who can help them win now, I am not entirely sure if Harris is going to be worth it.
Jackson could carve out a role for himself this coming season, while Beauchamp is expected to make a major leap in Year 2. Surely, the Bucks would want to keep at least some future assets on their roster, right?
