Stephen A. Smith’s dreadful college stats revealed in odd bust-up with NBA’s Pelicans as ‘awful’ First Take… – The US Sun
STEPHEN A. Smith has gotten roasted for his brutal college basketball stats by an NBA franchise.
The fiery ESPN personality, 56, got mocked by the New Orleans Pelicans social media team after his continued criticism of their team star power forward Zion Williamson.
A report in December revealed that Williamson, who's listed at 6-foot-8 and 288 pounds, simply "doesn't listen" to the Pelicans' requests to have a better diet.
On Friday, Stephen A. took aim at the two-time NBA All-Star Williamson and his weight issues.
While on ESPN's Get Up!, he said, "Zion Williamson, it's not about his game. It's about how many burgers he's eating and whether or not he's gonna be in shape. Or is he gonna keep eating McDonald's?"
"That's what he has to prove – that the chefs don't love him any longer, that he's committed to playing basketball and being in shape."
Smith also made comments in December that every chef in New Orleans loved the 2019 No. 1 overall pick because "he can't stop eating."
The Pelicans social media team took notice of the ESPN star's continued shots at Williamson, and kept it brief at first.
New Orleans posted a graphic on X, formerly known as Twitter, of Smith's college basketball stats at Winston-Salem State University, when he averaged only 1.5 points per game in one campaign.
Then, the Pelicans posted a blooper reel of Smith's athletic career, from basketball and baseball to boxing, with the caption, "Flock it, Stephen A. Smith highlights."
Fans were in hysterics over New Orleans' roasts, with one writing, "The Pels admins working OT."
While another said, "My type of petty."
Stephen A. has since clapped back to the Pelicans' posts.
The sports media personality brought up his kneecap cracking in half while in college, ending his career, and the fact the Pelicans have never made it past the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Smith wrote, "LESS!!! Can’t score when you can’t play due to a devastating knee injury. That’s my fact. Now……what’s y’all excuse for never winning anything??? Can’t wait to see y’all in April. May and June?"
He ended the post by stating, "We won’t even go there! Good Luck! Tell my boys…Coach Green and CJ I’m always rooting for them."
The Pelicans have won eight of their last nine games and sit with a 34-22 record, good for the No. 5 seed in the West.
Williamson, meanwhile, has a career low average of 22.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists per contest.
