One week remains before Selection Sunday and it’s time for one last men’s basketball Power 36 rankings from Andy Katz. Here’s how the teams shook out.
MORE RANKINGS: AP Poll | NET rankings
Dropped out: San Diego State (24), Richmond (27), Iowa (30), Indiana State (31), Villanova (34), Syracuse (35)
AUTO-BID TRACKER: Tracking all 32 NCAA men’s basketball conference tournaments, auto bids for 2024
Drake: The Bulldogs behind the DeVries family took down top seed Indiana State to win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs beat No. 10 Evansville and No. 3 Bradley before the 84-80 win over the Sycamores. Tucker DeVries scored a game-high 27 points while Atin Wright and Darnell Brodie scored 17 each. Drake enters the NCAA Tournament as a team that could produce multiple upset wins. Drake was on the list of a possible at-large candidates but the Bulldogs didn’t leave anything to chance and beat the regular-season champs.
Reed Sheppard, Kentucky: The freshman phenom scored 27 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in the Wildcats season-ending 85-81 win at Tennessee. Sheppard scored eight and handed out 11 assists in a 93-77 win over Vanderbilt. Sheppard has made himself into one of the most valuable freshman in the country, let alone a game changer for the Wildcats during what should be a deep postseason run.
