Dream Struggling

The Atlanta Dream head into Connecticut with three straight losses, dropping three games under .500 for the season in the process. On Sunday, the Dream fell 96-75 to the Liberty at home for their third straight loss. The Atlanta defense allowed the Liberty to shoot over 51 percent from the field while shooting under 40 percent from the field themselves. The Dream hit just 2-of-17 shots from long range. Tina Charles led Atlanta with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds. The Dream played the game without co-leading scorer Rhyne Howard, who sat out with an ankle injury.

Atlanta hopes to end their three-game skid on the road at Connecticut on Friday night. They are last in the WNBA in scoring this season. The Dream are last in field goal shooting and eighth in 3-point shooting. Atlanta is sixth in the league in scoring defense this season. They are fifth in the league in field goal defense and 8th in 3-point defense. On the glass, the Dream are ranked eighth in total rebounds. They are second in the league in fewest turnovers per game this season.

Key Injuries: Rhyne Howard is out.

Sun Hope to Shine Again

The Connecticut Sun came flying out of the gates this season with nine straight wins and 13 in their first 14 games. The Sun suffered their first losing streak of the season last week, losing 85-74 to the Las Vegas Aces and following that up with a 72-61 loss at Seattle. On Thursday night, the Sun survived a hot-shooting start by the Mystics and came back from an early 12-point deficit to win 94-91 in overtime behind 24 points from Dewanna Bonner. Tyasha Harris had 23 points and Dijonai Carrington chipped in with 22 points for the Sun.

The Sun return home looking to get back to their winnings ways after watching the New York Liberty pass them atop the Eastern Conference. The Sun are ninth in the WNBA in scoring this season. They are fourth in field goal percentage and 9th in three-point shooting. The Sun are just 11th in 3-point field goals made per game. Defensively, the Sun are first in the WNBA in scoring defense. They are fifth in field goal defense and second in 3-point defense. The Sun are just 11th in total rebounds per game this season. They are third in fewest turnovers per game this season.

Key Injuries: G Moriah Jefferson is out.

Insiders Status:

The Sun are back at home where the team has gone 8-1 this season. Their only home loss came to the two-time defending champion Aces. The Sun defeated the Dream once this season in a 69-50 drubbing in Atlanta. The Sun defense dominated the affair, holding the Dream to a season-low 50 points. That shouldn’t come as any surprise since the Sun are ranked first in the Eastern Conference in scoring defense. The Dream are last in the league in scoring and have averaged under 70 points per game in their three-game skid. Atlanta is also 9th in the WNBA in point differential with a -5.0 point differential. The Sun are 3rd in the WNBA in point differential at +7.6.
Take the Sun
Insiders Status:

The Sun and the Dream are both ranked in the bottom half of the WNBA in scoring this season. The Dream are last in the league in scoring offense while the Sun are 9th. In the first matchup, the Sun held the Dream to just 50 points and the total for the game was just 119 points. The Dream aren’t going to light it up from the perimeter, ranked last in the WNBA in field goal shooting. Those numbers won’t bode well for them against the Sun’s defense which ranks first in the league in scoring defense. This will be another low-scoring affair that Connecticut wins comfortably.
