Jefferson City boys basketball has 13 games switched to forfeits after self-reported error – KOMU 8

In the blink of an eye, Jefferson City boys basketball’s win total for the 2023-24 season plummeted from 14 to six. Eight of the Jays’ wins were marked as forfeit losses Friday, giving the Central Missouri Activities Conference team a new record of 6-19.
Jefferson City then went on to rout visiting Ewing Kauffman 84-36 on Friday night in its regular-season finale.
The forfeits were the result of the Jefferson City athletic department not filling out a transfer form for one of the boys basketball players, who remained nameless in a statement made by the Jefferson City School District.
According to the statement, it was believed that the required form did not need to be filed, as the player was formerly a part of the program last school year before temporarily transferring to a non-MSHSAA eligible program and then returning to the district.
The Jays reported the error to MSHSAA and self-imposed the forfeits.
Despite the record drop and forfeits, Jefferson City remained the No. 2 seed in the MSHSAA Class 5 District 5 Tournament. The Jays will host No. 7 Camdenton in the district quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Thursday at Fleming Fieldhouse.
