NCAA Basketball: Top 20 available players after '23 transfer portal deadline – Busting Brackets

It feels like Selection Sunday was just a couple of weeks ago. But in fact, it’s been 60 days. That’s the stretch between the opening and now closing of the NCAA Basketball transfer portal for non-grad transfers to enter and guarantee eligibility for the next season if they’re a first-time transfer.
Over 1,500 D-I players have entered the portal, with guys such as Max Abmas, Hunter Dickinson, Tylor Perry, and many other quality players entering. Now they’ve all found homes, including a few more this week such as Warren Washington (Texas Tech) and Jordan Dingle (St. John’s).
There’s still plenty of good talent out there but if you’re a team that needs multiple starters out in the portal, time is starting to run out. Here’s a look at the top 20 available players in the portal.
2021-22 season stats: 9.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.3 apg
The 6’5 guard was set to run the Cyclones offense but a season-ending leg injury in the preseason took him out. And with freshman Tamin Lipsey breaking out, it makes sense for Williams to leave, even though he’s a two-time transfer. When healthy, he was a good passer at the AAC level and had a few high-scoring games, including 22 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists against Elon.
2022-23 season stats: 13.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.7 apg
The JUCO transfer was impactful in his lone NCAA Basketball season at Buffalo, second in the team in scoring on 42% shooting from the field. Powell shot under 20% from three-point range but could get his offense in other ways and had some big outings. He went for 20+ points six times, including 27 points and 10 rebounds against Bowling Green.
2022-23 season stats: 14.5 ppg and 9.9 rpg
Although just 6’5, Mushila is pound-for-pound one of the better rebounders in NCAA Basketball. The forward was an All-Southland player in both seasons and had a number of big rebounding games this past season, including 21 points and 17 rebounds against Texas A&M-Commerce. His teammate Trey Tennyson went to TCU so we’ll see if the Islanders sent another player to the power conference level.
