The No. 12 seed Charleston Cougars and the No. 5 seed San Diego State Aztecs link up in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Cougars last made the Tournament in 2018, where they lost 62-58 to Auburn in the first round. Meanwhile, San Diego State has made the NCAA Tournament for three straight years. In 2022, the Aztecs fell to Creighton 72-69 in overtime during a first-round matchup.

Senior guard Ryan Larson has been an agile and elusive difference-maker in the backcourt. Larson scans the floor with ease and likes to push the tempo. The Minnesota native leads the team in assists (4.1) and steals (1.6) with 10.6 points per game. On March 7 against UNC Wilmington, Larson had 23 points and four steals.
