The 25 dollars that changed the Los Angeles Lakers star’s life
“This 25 dollar hoop is probably the best investment in the history of man,” claimed the popular Twitter account ‘House of highlights’ while sharing an image of LeBron James as a three-year-old on Christmas 1987.
It was a gift that completely changed the history of the NBA and to which the athlete himself reacted on his Instagram account: “Facts”.
Gloria Marie James, mother of the Los Angeles Lakers star, had a ‘vision’ and the famous toy basket from the American brand Little Tikes is one of the reasons why we have been enjoying the NBA legend for so many years.
The most cost-effective gift, costing just 25 dollars, introduced King James to the world of basketball, a sport he would go on to rule and become one of the best in history.
“I chatted with LeBron James in the hallway after Sunday night’s game and asked him what his most memorable Christmas present was. He told me that his mother gave him a Little Tykes basketball hoop when he was 3 years old,” said TV host Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.
Many wonder what would have happened to LeBron James if instead of receiving a toy basket… he had received a football, a sport he played in high school.
He stood out for his size and speed as a wide receiver and received offers from some universities, including Notre Dame.
However, his football career was cut short after he broke his wrist the summer before his senior year in high school in an Amateur Athletic Union game.
“Michael [Jordan] was a super athlete, so was Kobe [Bryant], so was Kawhi [Leonard]. But I don’t know if there’s ever been an athlete like LeBron James in our league. I truly believe that if LeBron James had played football, he could have been the greatest football player of all time, and at any position,” Doc Rivers said in 2020.
