Men’s Basketball
UConn Athletic Communications / Aug. 29, 2023
STORRS, Conn. – With elite college basketball programs Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana and Gonzaga highlighting the 2023-24 non-conference schedule for the UConn men’s basketball team, the defending NCAA national champion Huskies will be battle-tested before they even begin the grueling 20-game BIG EAST slate.
The Huskies, 31-8 last season as they captured the fifth national championship in the program’s history, face their first Power 5 challenge on Sunday and Monday, Nov. 19-20, when they head for Madison Square Garden to participate in the Empire Classic. UConn takes on Indiana of the Big Ten on Nov. 19, and either Texas (Big 12) or Louisville (ACC) on Nov. 20.
UConn’s first true road game will take place on Friday, Dec. 1, when the Huskies travel to Lawrence, Kan., and legendary Allen Fieldhouse to meet Kansas in the Big East-Big 12 Battle – a match-up of the last two NCAA national champions. The gauntlet continues on Tuesday, Dec. 5, as the Huskies return to Madison Square Garden for the Jimmy V Classic, taking on North Carolina.
In a rematch of the 2023 NCAA West Regional final, UConn journeys to Seattle to meet Gonzaga on Friday, Dec. 15, the last non-conference game of the regular season.
In total, UConn will play 11 non-conference games, including six home games at either Gampel Pavilion or the XL Center, three at Madison Square Garden, and two on the road. The home game splits between Gampel Pavilion and the XL Center, as well as game times and television coverage, will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Huskies will open the 2023-24 regular season on Monday, Nov. 6, playing host to first-time opponent Northern Arizona. That will be followed on Saturday, Nov. 11, with UConn entertaining Stonehill, who UConn met for the first time last season. Tuesday, Nov. 14, will feature a home game against another first-time opponent, Mississippi Valley State.
Following the Empire Classic, the Huskies then return home for games on Friday, Nov. 24, against Manhattan and Monday, Nov. 27, against longtime New England opponent New Hampshire.
After the Jimmy V Classic, UConn will be at home on Saturday, Dec. 9, to entertain first-time opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff before heading to Seattle to meet Gonzaga.
UConn’s 20-game BIG EAST Conference schedule will be announced by the league in the near future.
