The blackballed NBA player argued against the fairness of trans athletes.
Enes Freedom has already changed his name once to make a political statement, and he is talking about doing it again. In his latest controversial statement, the former NBA player claimed he could identify as a woman, change his name to ‘Eneshia,’ put on a wig and dominate the WNBA.
Freedom first made his point aimed at keeping transgender athletes out of sports on his X/Twitter account, before doubling down on Fox News.
Men don’t belong in women’s spaces. Restrooms – Locker Rooms or Sports. Since I’m blackballed from the NBA, should I put on a wig, identify as a woman and start dominating the WNBA?” he wrote online.
His inflammatory statement sparked an appearance on Fox News, where he took his disparaging comments even further, arguing he could average 60 points and 30 rebounds in the professional women’s basketball league, and that a GM should sign him to help him make his point
During his NBA career, Freedom played for several teams, including the Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Boston Celtics. He would have a long way to go to prove his outlandish claims about dominating the WNBA to be correct, seeing as he averaged 11.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in his NBA career.
Freedom won over many fans and media through his love of America, and his story of emigrating from Turkey. He put his love for the country on full display by changing his last name to ‘Freedom’ in 2021.
A few days after the initial post about the WNBA, Freedom captioned a video on X/Twitter with words that seemed to contradict his statement about excluding trans athletes from competition.
“America is not just a country, it’s an idea and a melting pot, where diversity is celebrated and dreams are born.”
