Victor Wembanyama‘s NBA debut seems destined to be shaped by a rivalry within the Lone Star State. This much-anticipated league debut marks the introduction of one of the most talked-about prospects in NBA history
According to Marc Stein, the Frenchman’s debut game is currently penciled in for October 25, with the San Antonio Spurs rookie facing Luka Doncic‘s Dallas Mavericks.
“Victor Wembanyama‘s first official NBA game is tentatively slated for Oct. 25, league sources say, with Wembanyama‘s Spurs due to play host to Dallas and Luka Doncic,” Stein wrote on Twitter.
“The NBA’s full formal 2023-24 schedule release is expected next week.”
Wembanyama, who was the top overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs in this year’s NBA Draft, has deliberately taken a step back after an extensive draft process, a demanding season in the French league, and participation in the NBA’s Summer League.
His presence in the Summer League was brief, featuring in only a few games. Following this, he opted for a well-deserved break to kickstart his life off the court in San Antonio.
“In the past month, I think basketball wasn’t even 50% of my schedule,” Wembanyama said last month.
“I can’t stand it. I know it’s a special moment in my life, but I’m glad it’s over. I just wanna hoop.
“I just wanna work out, lift, because this is my life. Obviously, every first pick gotta go through this, but yeah it just makes me better for the future.”
