NBA free agency 2023: Christian Wood, Grant Williams headline top … – Sporting News
Entering the third day of NBA free agency, a ton of names have already been signed (and we have grades for all of the major ones). Most of the starter-quality players are gone, but there are still a select few that remain on the market. There are also plenty of rotation players that could still be scooped up.
Here are the best players remaining as of Sunday afternoon.
MORE: Live tracker for all free agency moves
1. Christian Wood | Status: Unrestricted free agent
The Mavericks are expected to let Wood walk in free agency. He’s a good 3-point shooter, but his undisciplined defense limited his minutes.
2. Grant Williams | Status: Restricted free agent
The Celtics might not be able to afford to keep Williams, who is a hard-nosed defender and capable 3-point shooter.
3. P.J. Washington | Status: Restricted free agent
Washington is a good 3-point shooter and rebounder. He has some issues on the defensive end.
4. Kelly Oubre Jr. | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Oubre is a good scorer with poor instincts and bad defense. But teams always need offense.
5. Dario Saric | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Saric played well for the Thunder after being acquired via midseason trade. He’s a smart player with some athletic limitations.
6. Malik Beasley | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Beasley is a volume 3-point shooter with defensive issues.
7. Mason Plumlee | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Plumlee is a good backup center who won’t make many mistakes. However, he is very limited in terms of shooting ability.
8. Paul Reed | Status: Restricted free agent
Reed is a good athlete and shot blocker who had trouble finding a spot in Doc Rivers’ rotation.
9. Matisse Thybulle | Status: Restricted free agent
Thybulle is a terrific defender who is a perennial candidate for All-Defense teams. He became a much better shooter, hitting 37 percent of his 3s last season. But teams still leave him open, and he has to let them fly more often in order to be playable.
10. Ayo Dosunmu | Status: Restricted free agent
The Bulls extended a qualifying offer to Dosunmu, so they have the ability to match any offer that another team makes for the 23-year-old. But it’s still possible Dosunmu could leave Chicago this offseason for the right offer.
The two-year point guard started 51 games last season, averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He struggled with his 3-point shooting this year, but he is a good defender who still has plenty of room to grow.
11. Kendrick Nunn | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Nunn didn’t play two seasons ago because of a nasty bone bruise and was slow coming back from that injury last season. But his play picked up substantially after being traded to the Wizards. He’s a good scorer and shot creator.
12. Torrey Craig | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Craig is a good defender and a respectable 3-point threat who shot 40 percent from deep last season. He has positional size at 6-foot-7, too. He is limited as a scorer aside from catch-and-shoot jumpers, and he’s a little too reluctant to shoot them, but he’s a decent 3-and-D wing that started 60 games for the Suns last season.
13. Mo Bamba | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Bamba is a good shot blocker and 3-point shooter but has low feel on the court. The Lakers waived Bamba but could try to bring him back at a lower price than the $10.3 million that they would have owed him.
14. Aaron Holiday | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Holiday is a good defender and hit 41 percent of his 3s last season. He does have a tendency to make mistakes on the court, but in a limited role as a backup he can be useful.
15. Javonte Green | Status: Restricted free agent
Green is an energy wing off the bench. He’s a defensive menace who is great at getting deflections, and his athleticism lets him get up for dunks. He’s an improved 3-point shooter, hitting 37 percent from 3 last year, but he is very reticent to let them fly.
16. Terence Davis | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Davis is a good scorer with range from 3. He’s a nice athlete too who tries hard on defense but doesn’t have great technique.
17. Montrezl Harrell | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Somehow, Harrell is still only 29 years old. He’s still a pretty good scorer with terrible defense. He could be an okay scoring and energy option off the bench for someone.
18. JaMychal Green | Status: Unrestricted free agent
Green is a stretch small-ball five that can guard multiple positions and hits 37 percent of his 3s for his career. He wasn’t playable for much of the Warriors’ postseason but he can eat up minutes for a team off the bench during the regular season.
