The NBA season is drawing closer, but a number of players remain free agents.
Free agency in the NBA officially opened back on July 6, with a number of franchises acting quickly to get in-demand players through their doors.
There were new signings and new contracts handed out, with Kyrie Irving, Khris Middleton and Draymond Green among the biggest new contracts, while Fred VanFleet, Bruce Brown and Dillon Brooks were among the headline-grabbing new signings.
Meanwhile, a number of players remain free agents, and they are in limbo for the time being as the new season approaches, but can they still find new teams after the November trade deadline?
Yes, teams are able to sign free agents after the trade deadline passes in late autumn.
A number of free agents are still usually available after the start of the season, and indeed after the trade deadline. Some players hold off on signing new deals in a bid to find a new team, while others agree to end their relationship with their current team during the season.
That allows teams with available salary space to snap up those free agents, offering outright free agents a deal or offering to take up the contract of players who leave other teams during the season. Though, the player and the team must have already agreed to part ways to avoid the deal falling into the trade category.
This is called the buyout market, and it usually involves teams with a playoff opportunity adding what they feel are key pieces ahead of a proposed playoff run, though there are exceptions when the right opportunity pops up for the right team.
