MEMPHIS — Already ranked No. 33 overall in the class of 2025, 6-foot-5 Davion Hannah is among the most talented rising junior guards in the country. The Milwaukee product has been showing why while playing with the Mac Irvin Fire in the US Open portion of the NCAA College Basketball Academy this week.
A big time athlete with length who can create space off the dribble almost at will, he’s had flashes of brilliance as a long summer comes to an end.
“The job isn’t done yet and the season isn’t over yet,” Hannah told 247Sports. “Even though I’m exhausted from playing all of these months of basketball I’ve still got to finish out strong. That just comes with the territory and you have to be mentally tough.”
While his versatility and ability to make plays for himself and others via the dribble stand out along with his high-flying athleticism, Hannah says that he just tries to play basketball and make the right play as he works on building his all-around game.
“I just play basketball and try to do everything,” said Hannah. “I don’t have to go out here and score 20 or 25 points every time. I don’t care about scoring; I care about winning. If I just have five points, I want to have eight assists and be active rebounding and impact the game as many ways as possible.
“I’m working on developing my body and becoming more of a ball handler and I’m working on my jump shot still. I really have to develop everything.”
Hannah’s efforts have earned him scholarship offers from the likes of Arizona State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Marquette, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oregon, Wake Forest and Wisconsin. While Hannah made it clear that he’s wide open in the recruiting process he discussed the places he’s been on campus — Marquette, Michigan State and Wisconsin — and one he’s looking to visit soon, Iowa State.
Iowa State: “They always show love. They are taking a chance on a kid from Milwaukee and that means everything to me. Every time I talk to the coaches it is like a warm and loving feeling like they really want me there and I really appreciate that.”
Marquette: “I really like this thing that they do with a deflection count. They try to get more deflections every single game and that right there amazes me because every single game they get better at it because they are working hard and only care about getting better and better. It’s also the home town.”
Michigan State: “It was an amazing visit. Before I even stepped foot in the door, I felt like I was already coming there with open arms and lots of love because they showed a lot of attention to me and my family. When I went there everybody is talking, coach Izzo is out there geeking everybody up and giving everybody energy and they are all going as hard as possible without complaining. They are having fun while going as hard as possible.”
Wisconsin: “That right there, Wisconsin was amazing. They show me so much love. Every time that I’m playing, they are here. They flew back home today but every time they are in the same gym as me, they are front and center. They are definitely making it known they want me.”
According to Hannah he will look to finalize a visit to Iowa State (and another to Michigan State) along with others in the near future. While he’s setting up visits, he doesn’t have any kind of timeline for a decision and it is just going to be a matter of getting a feel for the right time.
“Whenever the decision happens it happens,” said Hannah. “I don’t want to rush anything I just want to keep playing and working to get better until it’s time to make a commitment.”
