The Las Vegas Aces clinched their playoff spot Tuesday night with a win over the Atlanta Dream in the midst of what is shaping up to be a historic season.
Six weeks before the start of the postseason, they already have punched their ticket. They have not lost at home yet in 2023, and they become the second WNBA team ever to start a season with a 24-2 record, joining the 1998 Houston Comets.
The Aces also are on pace to match the 1998 Comets (27-3, .900) for the best winning percentage in WNBA history and to surpass the 2014 Phoenix Mercury (29-5) for the most wins in WNBA history.
The only setback Las Vegas has faced is the loss of Candace Parker to a broken foot. But the team has gone 8-0 in her absence and could have her back by the time the playoffs begin. And the Aces are on track to lock down the No. 1 seed, with a four-game lead on the second-place New York Liberty.
The 2023 WNBA playoffs will begin on Sept. 13, with eight teams qualifying for the postseason and the first-round best-of-three series. Just Women’s Sports is keeping track of which teams have clinched playoff spots — and which teams have been eliminated from contention.
For the second consecutive year, the Aces are looking to clinch the No. 1 seed in the WNBA playoffs. They booked their ticket to the postseason with a 93-72 win over Atlanta, led by a 24-point performance by Jackie Young and a 20-point, 11-rebound performance from 2022 MVP A’ja Wilson.
