Why isn't Elena Delle Donne in the WNBA All-Star Game? Latest … – Sporting News
Elena Delle Donne initially injured her left ankle on June 30. After sitting on the bench for two days, she rose back to health, at least enough to be cleared, and returned to the action.
At Mohegan Sun on July 9, Delle Donne re-rolled that same ankle.
Now, Delle Donne is forced to sit out for two weeks at least, missing what would be her seventh All-Star appearance and forcing the league to replace her on Team Wilson’s reserves list.
Rhyne Howard, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert’s pick, will take her place. Howard’s power as a guard on defense, and her ability to score on offense, is a sure-fire sign for Team Wilson, who’s attempting consecutive win number two this time around.

Here’s the latest on the Mystics’ star’s pending All-Star absence.
Delle Donne is not participating in the 2023 All-Star Game as she recovers from re-injuring her left ankle. The injury came during Washington’s loss to Connecticut on Sunday, July 9.
It was confirmed Monday by her franchise that she would need to be replaced by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert, as she’s been sidelined for at least two weeks.
Delle Donne is a seven-time All-Star, including this year, but this isn’t the first time she’s missed due to injury. Of her seven call-ups, she’s actually missed four to injury: 2013, 2014, 2017 and now 2023. She’s only played in 2015, 2018, and 2019 and has no All-Star wins under her belt.
Delle Donne re-injured her left ankle when the Mystics were at Mohegan Sun to face Connecticut with about 90 seconds left in the second quarter.
CBS Sports reported that she had been guarding DeWanna Bonner when she lunged to contest a pass and landed on Bonner’s foot, in turn rolling her already bum ankle. She limped to the locker room after that.

Originally, it had been sprained on June 30 in the Mystics’ loss to the Dream, and she only sat out for two games following that.
Delle Donne will be replaced by 2022 Rookie of the Year Rhyne Howard, a guard from Atlanta. She will take the place as a reserve for Team Wilson, per WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert.
This will be Howard’s second consecutive All-Star appearance.
