How to watch Kentucky basketball, Louisville WBB competing as … – Courier Journal

Two programs from the Bluegrass State are in Canada this week representing the United States on the world stage.
The Kentucky men’s and the Louisville women’s basketball teams are playing in the GLOBL JAM tournament in Toronto. U of L and UK are competing as Team USA and will take on teams from Africa, Canada, Germany and Puerto Rico. The Cardinals and Wildcats play their first games Wednesday.
Louisville brings back four players from last season’s team, highlighted by the senior pair of Olivia Cochran and Merissah Russell. Third-year sophomores Alexia Mobley and Nyla Harris also return from the 2022-23 team, which reached the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season — the only program in the country to have done so.
The Cardinals welcome six newcomers in transfers Jayda Curry (California), Eylia Love (Georgia Tech) and Hennie van Schaik (California State-Bakersfield), and graduate transfers Kiki Jefferson (James Madison), Nina Rickards (Florida), and Sydney Taylor (UMass).
“It’s a group of 10 that I’m thrilled with,” Louisville coach Jeff Walz said last month. “It has been a great offseason so far. Our chemistry is as good as it’s been in a long time. Just really been impressed with how well they’re all bonding and getting to know each other.”

The Wildcats return even fewer players, with just a trio of returnees (guards Antonio Reeves and Adou Thiero along with forward Ugonna Onyenso). UK has eight new faces: a seven-man freshman class and Tre Mitchell, a recent transfer from West Virginia.
“We have a team right now that is learning, having fun, encouraging each other and being really coachable. Practice has been a lot of fun so far and they are working hard,” UK head coach John Calipari wrote in a message posted Sunday on his personal Twitter account. “But we are heading to play in an event that will require us to be even more physical and compete even harder against these older players. There will be grabbing and physicality. That’s FIBA basketball. Will we be physical enough and have enough fight to compete? Baylor went 1-4 in this event last year so we know the challenge.
“There’s going to be a lot of randomness to how we play but we are a really unselfish group and can score in a variety of ways. I’m so excited to learn more about our team!!”
