Stanford forward Harrison Ingram is entering the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons with the Cardinal. The former five-star prospect made the official announcement Tuesday afternoon via social media.
“Stanford is a wonderful play and my experience here has been amazing,” Ingram wrote on Twitter. “The relationships that I have developed will be lifelong, and I will always remember my time here. Thanks to (head) Coach (Jerod) Haase and staff for the opportunity to become a Cardinal. The many life lessons learned on and off the court will serve me well in all aspects of life.
“I have devoted many hours to being the best academic student and best basketball player possible, and I will continue on this path. Although there is more work required to reach my goals, through much thought, and discussion with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during this process.”
Ingram appeared in 33 games with 32 starts for the Cardinal this season, averaging 10.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and a team-high 3.7 assists in 27.8 minutes per game. But Stanford stumbled to a 14-19 overall record with a 7-13 mark in Pac-12 Conference play, extending the program’s NCAA Tournament drought dating back to the 2013-14 season.
The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Ingram posted similar numbers across the board as a true freshman with 10.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game over 32 games en route to being named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and earning an All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection.
Coming out of Dallas (Texas) St. Mark’s High School, Ingram was ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect and No. 6 small forward in the country for the Class of 2021. He was also the second-ranked prospect in the Lone Star State.
In the first year of the portal windows, the college basketball transfer portal began March 13 and runs until May 11.
Numerous graduate transfers already entered the transfer portal prior to the March 13 opening, but that date kicked off the 60-day window for the rest of the prospective transfers to hop in the portal to examine their options. The one-time transfer rule is still intact, per usual. If a player has not transferred yet, they are immediately eligible.
